Course Number: 797EE
Course Credits: 2
Environmental Law Seminar: Environmental Crime Enforcement What makes an environmental violation a crime? When should an environmental violation become the subject of a criminal investigation? What proof is needed to convict a person or business? To seek answers to these and other questions, this course will examine several phases of an environmental criminal case; from the exercise of investigative discretion to the elements of criminal charges for water, air, waste and wildlife prosecutions, as well as the charging of individuals and organizations. We will also discuss the role of the public prosecutor, and whether that role is limited to bringing discrete cases, or should it include a problem-solving role.
