The focus of Denise Molina Capers' '01 career has been on supporting civil rights and equity, diversity and inclusion, and advocacy on so many important issues. In March of 2021, she was hired as the City of Somerville, Massachusetts’s first director of racial and social justice.
ASDS alumna, Artisha Mann-Cooper ’12, forges ahead as a successful producer and entrepreneur during the pandemic. A true artist and recent New York City Women in Film honoree, Mann-Cooper is a great proponent of creating for the sake of creating, recognizing that if she had not produced her own material, she would not have been taken notice of. She also understands the frustration many have regarding moving their career forward, and to this end, has utilized her experience in both business and film to help artists find tangible ways to complete their goals as a coach and author of an eBook.
When Mariah Kitner ’15 arrived at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥, she didn’t know what major she would ultimately choose. What she did know was that she wanted to be in New York at a liberal arts institution where she could explore lots of interests. She discovered her calling freshman year during a course with Art Department Chair, Linda Herrick.
Singer. Model. Medical assistant. There’s no end to what Brian Powell ’21 can accomplish as a health science major on the pre-physician assistant track who creates art in his spare time. To top it off, he also wrote a research paper on racial patient bias in healthcare.

For many Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ students, learning doesn’t stop once one leaves the classroom for the day; or even, once one acquires their degree. Kevin McGovern ’83, ’21, who earned his bachelor’s in business administration and CPA designation thirty-eight years ago, epitomizes this ethos of persistence and the continual ability to evolve and grow with the times—which in fact, is one of the reasons he decided to return to Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ and pursue a master’s in cybersecurity.
