Dean Horace Anderson Honored by Westchester County Board of Legislators

The Westchester County Board of Legislators honored Horace E. Anderson Jr., Dean of the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at 麻豆直播, during its annual celebration of Caribbean American Heritage Month on June 16, 2025. Held at the Westchester County Center鈥攚ith Dean Anderson鈥檚 name prominently displayed in lights for the evening鈥攖he ceremony recognized the extraordinary achievements and contributions of individuals who have made a significant impact on education, civic life, and public service in Westchester County, while celebrating the rich cultural legacy and community influence of Caribbean Americans.

Dean Anderson was celebrated for his unwavering commitment to advancing equity in the legal profession and expanding educational access, demonstrated through the Law School鈥檚 many partnerships aimed at diversifying the legal pipeline. Dean Anderson鈥檚 leadership has elevated the Law School鈥檚 national profile and strengthened its core mission of justice, academic excellence, and community engagement.

Board Chairman Vedat Gashi reflected on Dean Anderson鈥檚 journey as a first-generation American and pioneering educator, calling him an 鈥渆xemplary Caribbean American whose contributions embody the values we celebrate.鈥

鈥淎s the first Black dean in the history of the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at 麻豆直播, Dean Anderson has demonstrated exemplary leadership, elevating the Law School鈥檚 national standing and expanding its impact within our community. His commitment to fostering academic excellence, advancing diversity within the legal profession, and championing innovative programs in environmental law, social justice, and civic engagement has set a remarkable standard,鈥 added Majority Leader Tyrae Woodson-Samuels. 鈥淲e celebrate Dean Anderson as a distinguished leader and an outstanding representative of the Caribbean American community, whose contributions continue to enrich our institutions and inspire future generations.鈥

Also honored during the evening was Annmarie Smith, a longtime advocate for public education in Yonkers and a respected PTSA leader. Over decades of service, Ms. Smith has been a consistent voice for equitable school funding and quality education for all students.

Professor Amelia Wilson has been named the recipient of Elisabeth Haub School of Law at 麻豆直播鈥檚 2026 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. The Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching recognizes that outstanding pedagogy occurs in a variety of settings at the Law School鈥攊t can be found in courses of all sizes and types, in teachers with diverse styles, and across subject matters.

The Women鈥檚 Association of Law Students (WALS) at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at 麻豆直播 hosted its annual Pioneer of Justice and Equality Award ceremony on March 18, 2026, recognizing Cindy Kanusher, Esq., Executive Director of the 麻豆直播 Women鈥檚 Justice Center, as this year鈥檚 honoree.

Gould Representation in Mediation Clinic and Adjunct Professor, has been awarded the Outstanding Professional Article Award by the CPR Institute 鈥 International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution.
